Risk of big earthquake on San Andreas fault rises after quake swarm at Salton Sea

The rumbling started Monday morning deep under the Salton Sea. A rapid succession of small earthquakes — three measuring above magnitude 4.0 — began rupturing near Bombay Beach, continuing for more than 24 hours. Before the swarm started to fade, more than 200 earthquakes had been recorded.

Earthquake warning issued for Southern California

California is moving one step closer to a statewide early warning system for earthquakes.
With nearly 200 small tremors giving Southern California a jiggle earlier in the week, the California Office of Emergency Services has issued an earthquake advisory for the region.

Bishop High on lockdown – suspect apprehended on campus

This morning at approximately 10:20 A.M., the Bishop Police Department received a call reporting domestic violence in progress in the 200 block of South Warren Street. Upon the arrival of police officers, a male subject was observed quickly leaving the area on foot, while additional units heard gunshots in the area.

Third Klamath Salmon Fishing Quota Met, Catch Now Subject to Size Restriction

Anglers are about to meet their annual quota for salmon at another popular Klamath River fishing spot, triggering new restrictions on the fishery for the remainder of the year. Monitoring efforts show that anglers above the Highway 96 Bridge in Weitchpec to 3,500 feet below Iron Gate Dam will have caught their quota of 189 adult fall-run Chinook, 22 inches or longer, by sundown on Wednesday, Oct. 5. After the quota is met, anglers will still be able to fish in this area but must release any Chinook longer than 22 inches.
