Bishop Creek water users: ‘Work, suffer together’

Mark Lacey asked that area ranchers and West Bishop residents “work together and suffer together.” Steve Stevens anticipated that request and is working toward a system that would equitably distribute the reduced flows out of the Bishop Creek drainage through the irrigation season.

Woodstove replacement program expanded

Do you need to replace an old woodstove or fireplace? Property owners in the Town of Mammoth Lakes who previously were not qualified for woodstove replacement subsidies may now be eligible through the Town’s Woodstove Replacement Program!

Tree thinning starts near town, includes Old Shady Rest Campground area
March 24, 2015, Mammoth Times
A mechanical thinning project will begin this week in the Old Shady Rest Campground and surrounding area, according to the Inyo National Forest. That means the sound of chainsaws and big equipment might be audible to users of the highly popular area behind Shady Rest, but the thinning project is considered to be a critical part of wildfire prevention work near Mammoth, forest authorities said. Routes into the areas being thinned will be closed to public access as a matter of public safety.

Missing hiker found

Missing Yosemite National Park hiker, Michael “Mic” Dahl, was found alive Monday morning, March 23 at approximately 11 a.m., in Yosemite National Park, according to Yosemite National Park authorities. Dahl was spotted by visitors on the Yosemite Valley Loop Trail. The visitors recognized him from the missing persons flyer.

As currently named, however, the Mammoth Lakes’ Planning and Economic Development Commission is ready to approve development—so ready, in fact, that several Commissioners appeared outright livid with the Mammoth Lakes Housing (MLH) Board for suggesting a proposed development had not met its Affordable Housing Mitigation requirement.

Bishop launches free wifi throughout Main Street area

Bishop's Main Street is now a free wifi zone, according to the Bishop Chamber of Commerce. I-Main now provides free wifi in public spaces along Main Street from Lagoon Street to MacIver Street and into the Bishop City Park. I-Main users will be greeted with a “splash page” hosted at www.bishop.community.

Agencies combine to rescue hiker at 'The Cleaver'

On Saturday, March 21, 2015, the Mineral County Sheriff’s Office, in Hawthorne, NV, received a 911 call regarding a hiker who had broken their leg in a fall near Matterhorn Peak, approximately 15 miles southwest of Bridgeport in the Sawtooth Mountain Range.

In response to “Feeling The Squeeze” and comments from Town Mgr. Dan Holler and Sierra Holiday Mobile Home Park Manager Lonnie Newbry, I would like to first say to Dan you claim that rent control would be a “nightmarish issue.” You also claim that the Riverside ordinance that I presented doesn’t really apply because they have so many more park than we do. I still don’t understand the reasoning behind that comment. I used the Riverside ordinance as an example because it’s simple.
