Fire restrictions going into effect July 1

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Bishop Field Office and the Inyo National Forest are implementing fire restrictions. The restrictions are in effect on all BLM public lands managed by the Bishop Field Office and Inyo National Forest lands with the exception of certain wilderness areas.

Charges against Rossy reduced to 91

Attorneys give final arguments in Dawndee Rossy trial

The attorneys in the Dawndee Rossy case made their final arguments in court Tuesday morning. The case now goes to appointed Judge Philip Argento who set July 28 as the date for his decision.

California Ivory Ban Now in Effect

Signed by Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. last October, a new law banning the sale of nearly all ivory in the state of California is effective as of July 1, 2016. The ban, which can be found in California Fish and Game Code, section 2022, encompasses teeth and tusks of elephant, hippopotamus, mammoth, mastodon, walrus, warthog, whale and narwhal, as well as rhinoceros horn, regardless of whether it is raw, worked or powdered, or from a store or a private collection. Under the law, advertising the sale of any items containing ivory is also strictly prohibited.

Waterfowl Breeding Population Survey Shows Improving Numbers in 2016

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) has completed its annual survey of waterfowl breeding pairs. Virginia Artist Wins 2016 California Duck Stamp Art Contest

A painting by Guy Crittenden of Richmond, Va., has been chosen as the winner of the 2016 California Duck Stamp Art Contest. The painting, which depicts a pair of lesser snow geese, will be the official design for the 2016-2017 stamp.

Nonlead Ammunition Implementation Phase 2 Starts July 1

Starting July 1, 2016, nonlead shot will be required when taking upland game birds with a shotgun in California, except for dove, quail, snipe, and any game birds taken at licensed game bird clubs. In addition, nonlead shot will be required when using a shotgun to take resident small game mammals, furbearing mammals, nongame mammals, nongame birds and any wildlife for depredation purposes.
