Sierra Wave Media announced last Friday that Benett Kessler, long-time Eastern Sierra journalist, founder and owner of Sierra Broadcasters, LLC in Independence, died on Jan. 2 in Northern Inyo Hospital after battling cancer for more than three years. She was 65.

At the Mammoth Lakes Town Council meeting on Wednesday, Councilman John Wentworth commented on the success of the holiday season: “I think it was a great, busy, hectic, happy holiday [with] maybe a little bit of an issue with some of the broadband capacity, which I’m sure we’ll have a chance to talk to our partners at Suddenlink about.”

L.A. ordered to re-water the Owens Gorge

Since the early 1940s, Los Angeles has diverted the Owens River from its natural channel in the Owens River Gorge for the production of electricity. In an historic agreement resolving litigation filed in 1991 by the Mono County District Attorney and Mono County, L.A. has now agreed to permanently provide the Owens River Gorge with sufficient water to restore lost natural resources, including the historic fish population.
