Sage grouse decision lauded by Mono County, ESLT

Bridgeport, CA – On April 21st, 2015 the United States Department of the Interior hosted a multi-agency event announcing that the Bi-State Distinct Population Segment of Greater Sagegrouse will not be listed as threatened. Mono County hailed this action as a step forward in achieving species preservation and ensuring that new regulatory burdens were not imposed on private and public land owners of the Eastern Sierra.

Hoping to end fishing decline

According to the California Sportfishing League (CSL) in an April 7 press release, a new CSL-backed bill might change the way California issues fishing licenses. The Sportfishing Stimulus Act of 2015 (SB 345), authored by Senator Tom Berryhill (R-Twain Harte), aims to address California’s decline in recreational fishing participation. California’s fishing participation rate currently ranks last in the country.

Boat inspections for Crowley Lake

Bishop, CA – As Opening of Fishing Season approaches, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) will be hosting Quagga and Zebra Mussel inspections for trailered watercraft from April 22 through April 24, 2015. The Department reminds local boaters that all motorized vessels planning to launch at Crowley Lake must be inspected prior to launch.

Inyo Board of Education commends Superintendent Terry McAteer’s budget presentation.
At Tuesday’s Inyo County Board of Education meeting on March 24, Board members reviewed Superintendent Dr. Terry McAteer’s budget plan and projects planned for 2015-16. In a phone interview after the meeting, Board President Chris Langley said “It was an astounding presentation of the initiative that only reinforces the good judgment and support that the Board and the voters have shown in having Dr. McAteer as our County School Superintendent over the past six years.”

Manzanar barracks exhibits and 46th Annual Pilgrimage

During World War II, more than 10,000 Japanese Americans coped with spartan living conditions at Manzanar. They were from cities and farms, young and old, rich and poor, extended families and single people. All were forced from their pre-war homes to live in crowded apartments in identical barracks in Manzanar.

Advised by county counsel that the Bishop orthopedic/physical therapy facility sponsored by Mammoth Hospital violates government codes, the Inyo County Local Agency Formation Commission voted to advise the Southern Mono Health Care District to fill the requirements set out in those codes by June 1.

Time limit expires on DWP solar ranch request

Formed at least 760,000 years ago as a terminal lake in a basin that has no outlet to the ocean which has caused high levels of salts to accumulate. The lake has an unusually productive ecosystem based on brine shrimp, and provides critical nesting habitat for migratory birds.

Former Inyo Supervisor Bob Michener dies

Bob Michener passed away at his home on Saturday, April 18. He was 91 years old. Bob was born on January 23, 1924, to Robert Ezra and Elizabeth Mae Michener. He attended Dorsey High School in Los Angeles and graduated in 1942.
