Hundreds of San Diegans are getting ready for the Eastern Sierra trout season opener on April 25. The annual six-hour trek up Highway 395 turns out thousands of anglers from Southern California in search of big rainbows, brownies, and cutthroats, in the mountain lakes from Bishop to Bridgeport. The tourist-based economies of Inyo, Mono, and Alpine counties call opening day “Fishmas.”

Mac the Naw: Counting down until opening day
April 13, 2015, Doug Busey, Tahoe Daily Tribune
Hello fellow anglers; I am counting the days to the California fishing season. On April 25 most of California’s lakes, streams and rivers will open for fishing. Always check your regulation book for every body of water you fish as regulations can change and some waters do not open until later in the season. For instance, Taylor Creek, Upper Truckee River and Trout Creek open July 1.

Forest roads management meeting April 21
April 13, 2015, Mammoth Times
The Inyo National Forest will hold a public meeting to share the Draft Travel Analysis Report (TAR) on Tuesday, April 21 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Cerro Coso Community College in Bishop, 4090 W. Line Street. At the meeting, Inyo National Forest staff will share how they developed the Draft TAR, answer questions about TAP, and have the Draft TAR available for review. The Forest intends to post the Draft TAR to the Inyo National Forest website before the meeting, and will notify you by email when it is available. The Travel Analysis Process (TAP) is required by the 2005 Travel Management Rule and requires that forests provide a safe, financially, and environmentally sustainable road system that can realistically be maintained. Due to increased use, aging infrastructure, and decreasing budgets, the forest cannot maintain all roads to standards for safety and environmental protection. For more information, call (760) 874-2427.
